Academic Programmes

Academic Activities are being conducted for the M.D. General Medicine Post Graduate students regularly in the form of Clinical Case discussions, C.M.E Programmes , Weekly Neurology clinics, and symposiums

Regular Neurological teaching programmes are conducted for the benefit of M.D General Medicine PostGraduate students. Clinical case discussion in Neurology for M.D. General Medicine PostGraduate students are being conducted every week. Moreover M.D. General Medicine Post Graduate Students are posted for 1 month in the Neurology department during their Speciality Postings. C.M.E programmes are also conducted in Neurologic topics along with the Medicine Department. The following is the list of C.M.E Programmes conducted from May 2009 to December 2009.

Services Rendered

Neurological services are being rendered to the poor and needy patients through outpatient clinic which functions twice a week (Monday and Thursday). Patients with Headaches, Epilepsy, Stroke, Parkinsons disease and other movement disorders, Dementias, Cervical Spondylosis, Low Backache, Neuralgic pains, peripheral neuropathies and neuromuscular disorders are treated in outpatient clinics. Patients requiring acute management and inpatient care are admitted in General Medical wards and IMCU and are treated through the general medicine department

Op Services

MONDAYS AND THURSDAYS
TIME: 10 AM - 12 NOON

Neurology OP services for poor and needy patients are rendered twice weekly ( namely Mondays and Thursdays). On an average about 30 New cases and about 75 to 100 old cases are seen on each outpatient clinic. Patients with Epilepsy are evaluated and anti-epileptic medications are issued to patients for 1 month and patients are constantly followed up every month and dosage adjusted according to their seizure control and drugs are issued on a monthly basis.

	Stroke – Cerebrovascular Accidents (New And Review Of Old Cases)

	Neuralgic Pains
	Peripheral Neuropathies
	Bell’s palsy and other cranial neuropathies
	Neuromuscular disorders
	Vertigo
	Spinal cord disorders
	Patients referred from other specialities like medical and surgical oncology, surgery, orthopaedics, e.n.t, ophthalmology, dermatology, paediatrics, vascular surgery, plastic surgery, urology and nephrology, cardiology.

In the current year (2010), till date, about 1200 New patients and about 2000 old patients have been seen in the out-patient clinic and treated for various Neurological ailments including Epilepsy, Headache, Stroke, Neuromuscular disorders, Vertigo and other disorders.

INPATIENT CALL OVERS

Apart from OP services, Neurological opinion and advice regarding management are rendered on all days in response to call overs from various specialities including Medicine, Surgery, Nephrology, Cardiology, IMCU, ICCU and other Medical and Surgical specialities. Moreover Neurological opinion for patients admitted in Convict Wards are also given. About 5-7 in- patient calls per day are seen and advice regarding management of acutely ill patients in various specialities including IMCU, ICCU, MEDICINE, SURGERY, ORTHO, PAEDIATRICS, NEPHROLOGY, MEDICAL AND SURGICAL ONCOLOGY are given. Patients with acute Neurological ailments namely Stroke, Meningoencephalitis, Encephalopathies, Seizure Disorders and Status Epilepticus, GuillainBare Syndrome, Transverse Myelitis and other Spinal Cord disorders, Degenerative Disorders, Peripheral Neuropathies, Neuromuscular Disorders, Disorders caused by toxins are all treated as inpatients in General Medical wards and IMCU.

Patient Awareness Programme

Periodic patient awareness programmes are conducted for epileptic patients.

An "EPILEPSY AWARENESS PROGRAMME" for the benefit of Epileptic Patients and for the General Public was conducted on the eve of the "NATIONAL EPILEPSY DAY" on 23-11-09.
